By winning the 66th ARD International Music Competition in Munich 2017 (Second Prize ex-aequo, BR Klassik Online Prize, No first prize was given)
Kyeong Ham has established himself as one of the most engaging and outstanding oboist of his generation.
He started playing the oboe in Seoul where he grew up. At the age of 15 he relocated to Germany to pursue his studies with Nicholas Daniel at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen. and later at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin with Dominik Wollenweber. at the age of 20 he became a Scholarship holder of the Herbert von Karajan Academy of Berlin Philharmonic where he was taught by Jonathan Kelly.
His talent and endeavour in oboe were proven with numerous prizes, including his stunning First Prizes at the Richard Lauschmann International Oboe Competition in Mannheim (2009), Tchaikovsky Conservatory International Winds and Percussion Competition in Moscow (2010), Iris Marquardt Prize (2010), International Academic Oboe and Bassoon Competition in Lódz, Poland (2011). In April 2013 Kyeong Ham was named the winner at the Muri International Oboe Competition in Switzerland, where he received not only First Prize but also Audience Prize from the impressive margin in the final round, and the Heinz Holliger Special Prize from Holliger himself.
2017년 제66회 뮌헨 ARD 국제 콩쿠르를 석권하며 (1위 없는 공동 2위, BR Klassik 상) 그동안 취약했다고 평가받던 한국 관악 주자들 사이에서 새로운 패러다임을 일으켰다. 우리나라를 넘어 유럽, 그리고 전 세계를 무대 삼아 활발히 활동하며 독보적인 음악 세계를 구축하고 있다.
함경은 스물셋의 나이로 세계 최정상 악단, 네덜란드 암스테르담 로얄 콘세르트헤보우 (RCO) 오케스트라의 단원으로 발탁되어 두 시즌 동안 뉴욕 카네기홀, 워싱턴 D.C 케네디 센터, 도쿄 산토리홀, 런던 로얄 알버트홀, 파리 필하모니 등 세계 유수의 공연장에서 최고의 지휘자들과 함께 무대에 오르며 수많은 오케스트라에서 다양한 경험을 쌓았다.
그는 이미 만 20세 나이로 베를린 필하모닉 오케스트라 카라얀 아카데미 오디션에 뽑혀 2년 동안 오보에 수석 조나단 켈리에게 멘토링을 받았으며 22세에는 독일 명문 하노버 오페라 극장의 수석으로 발탁되며 화제를 모으기도 했다. 서울예고 재학 중 만 15세 나이로 독일 트로싱엔 음악 대학에 입학해 니콜라스 다니엘 문하에서 공부한 이후 베를린 한스 아이슬러 음악대학에서 도미닉 볼렌 베버에게 사사 받은 그는, 2009년 독일 만하임 리하르트 라우쉬만 국제 오보에 콩쿠르 1위, 2010년 이리스-마르크 바르트 국제 콩쿠르 1위, 전 독일 음악대학 콩쿠르 2위, 러시아 모스크바 차이콥스키 콘서바토리 국제 관타악 콩쿠르 1위 및 현대음악 최고 해석상, 2011년 폴란드 로취 국제 오보에 콩쿠르 1위, 2013년 스위스 무리 국제 오보에 바순 콩쿠르 1위 및 청중상 그리고 전설적인 오보이스트, 하인츠 홀리거가 선정한 하인츠 홀리거 특별상까지 쾌거를 이뤄내며 아이코닉한 존재감을 드러냈다. 조성현, 리에 코야마, 리카르도 실바, 김한과 함께 하는 바이츠퀸텟의 창단 멤버로 2015년 덴마크 칼 닐센 국제 실내악 콩쿠르 준우승에 오르며 국내외 관악계에 큰 화제를 모으기도 했다.
As soloist, Kyeong has appeared with Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Baden-Baden Philharmonie, Argovia Philharmonic, Ensemble CHAART.
In the 2020/21 season Kyeong appeared as soloist twice with his own Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Performing Bach oboe concerto led by Kreeta-Maria Kentala and gave the world premiere of oboe concerto `Incandescece´ by Maija Hynninen. In 2023 in the Haydn‘s Sinfonia Concertante and Olivier Messiaen‘s Concert à quatre with his colleagues. In 2024-25 season he played the B.A.Zimmermann concerto with FRSO‘s current chief conductor Nicholas Collon.
He is also frequently asked to play as guest principal oboist with many European leading orchestras, such as Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, Bamberg Symphony, Rotterdam Philharmonic, SWR Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic, Malmö Symphoniker, Lapland Chamber Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
He has an affinity for chamber music and regularly invited to play at prestige Chamber Music Festivals around the world. such as Kuhmo (Finland), Davos (Switzerland), Ostfriesland (Germany), Molyvos (Greece), Zeven Bruggenkwartier (Netherland). and is a founding member of the Veits Woodwind Quintet, which was awarded Second prize at the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition in Copenhagen in 2015. the quintet's first recording was released in 2016 on the ARS label.
Kyeong frequently serves on the jury panels of international competitions such as the Muri Competition (Switzerland, 2026), Fernand Gillet-Fox Competiton (USA, 2021), Matthew Ruggiero International Competition (USA, 2018)
Kyeong served as Solo English horn at the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and principal oboe at the State Opera Hannover.
At age 23 Kyeong won the position of second oboe and english horn at the prestige Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam and worked for two seasons which brought him all over the world performing in exciting venues (such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Royal Albert Hall in London, Philharmonie Paris..etc) under the baton of the greatest conductors.
Currently Kyeong holds the position of 1st Principal Oboe of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Helsinki. and He is also a part time tutor at the Sibelius Academy University of Arts Helsinki.
He has given masterclass at Guildhall School or Music and Drama London, Musikhochschule Lübeck, Austrailian National Academy of Music Melbourne, SUNY Purchase New York, University of Cape Town, University of Pretoria in South Africa.
His debut Album `TAWO´ with internationally acclaimed pianist Yeoleum Son was released in February 2020 on 7 Mountain Records (features works by Skalkottas, Hindemith, Dorati, Norman, Salonen, Haas)
and his second album BACH (complete W.F.Bach duo and J.S.Bach, C.Ph.E.Bach sonatas ) with acclaimed flutist Sunghyun Cho was released in summer 2023.
Kyeong is a Marigaux artist and plays M2 oboe.
솔리스트로서 바이에른 방송 교향악단 (BRSO)을 비롯하여 서울시립교향악단, 경기필하모닉, 부천시립교향악단, 뮌헨 체임버 오케스트라, 모스크바 체임버 오케스트라, 독일 바덴바덴 필하모니, 터키 이즈미르 심포니, 스위스 아르가우어 심포니, 앙상블 차르트, 남아공 하우텡 필하모닉 등과 협연하였으며. 현재 속해 있는 핀란드 방송 교향악단과 바흐와 침머만 협주곡, 핀란드 작곡가 마이아 히니넨의 오보에 협주곡을 세계 초연하였고, 메시앙의 사중주 협주곡, 하이든 신포니아 콘체르탄테를 떠오르는 지휘자 막심 에밀야니체프의 지휘로 협연하였다. 또한 말러 체임버 오케스트라, 스코티쉬 체임버 오케스트라, 뮌헨 필하모닉, 로테르담 필하모닉, 밤베르그 심포니, SWR, WDR 심포니, 노르웨이 베르겐 필하모닉, 부다페스트 페스티벌 오케스트라, 영국 BBC 심포니, 시티 오브 버밍엄 심포니 등의 객원 수석 연주자로 활동하였으며 매년 핀란드 쿠흐모, 독일 오스트프리스란트, 에스토니아 패르누 예르비 페스티벌, 스위스 다보스 페스티벌, 그리스 몰리보스 페스티벌 등에서 연주를 꾸준히 이어가고 있다. 더불어 런던 길드홀 음악대학, 뉴욕주립 대학, 노르웨이 오슬로 아카데미, 독일 뤼벡음대, 남아공 케이프타운 음대, 호주 멜버른 국립 음악원 등의 초청으로 마스터 클래스를 진행했다.
함경은 현재 헬싱키에 거주하며 북유럽 최고로 꼽히는 핀란드 방송 교향악단 종신 수석 오보이스트로 활약하는 동시에 시벨리우스 음악원에서 학생들을 지도하고 있다. 2022년에는 호주 퍼스를 베이스로 삼은 서호주오케스트라의 수석으로 발탁되어 대륙을 넘나드는 왕성한 활동으로 다시 한번 주목받았다. 피아니스트 손열음과 함께한 정규 데뷔 앨범 <타보(TAWO)>는 네덜란드의 세븐 마운틴스 레이블을 통해 발매되었다.
